The Amber Palace Most of the buildings at the palace were built in the early 1600s by two kings: Man Singh I (ruled 1589 - 1614) and Mirza Raja Jai Singh I (ruled 1621-1667). The namesake of the latter king -- Jai Singh II -- would evenutally build Japiur. |

Walking up to the Amber Palace The Maharaja (the royal family) visits the empty palace on relgious occasions, however thousands of both Indian and foreign tourists visit the palace everyday. |

Inside grounds of the Amber Palace The walls inside the palace are decorated with mosaic, frescos, sculpture and lattice work. This courtyard was used at one time for the King's 12 queens that lived in this palace to enjoy the weather and hold celebrations. |
